King's College Madrid is a co-educational day and boarding school following the English National Curriculum which prepares pupils for IGCSE and GCE A levels and offers a wide range of subjects at both levels. There are optional Spanish studies and preparation for Spanish university entrance examinations.
With almost 2,000 pupils of 48 nationalities, the school has a complement of 140 fully qualified teachers. All academic staff have British qualifications, except the Spanish teachers and some who teach modern languages.
The school has a reputation for high academic standards and excellent examination results with students going on to universities in Britain, USA, and Spain among others. An Oxbridge preparatory group works with the most able students to prepare university applications.
There are three King's College sites in Madrid: the main school in Soto de Viñuelas (Pre-nursery to Year 13), King's College School, La Moraleja (Nursery to Year 9 in September 2010) and King's Infant School, Chamartin (Nursery to Year 2).
The school has its own catering service and offers three-course midday meals. There is an optional bus service with a modern fleet of 25 vehicles covering Madrid and outlying areas for all three school sites.
The main school offers the following facilities – Academic facilities: Seven science laboratories, three multimedia computer centres, two libraries, two music rooms, art studio. Early Learning Centre, an auditorium with seating for 350 people and a music school for individual tuition.
Sports facilities: Gymnasium, judo room, fitness centre, 25-metre heated indoor swimming pool, 11-a-side and 5-a-side football pitches, floodlit multi-sports area, tennis courts, stables and riding school.
Boarding facilities: There are boarding facilities for boys and girls with rooms for one to two pupils over the age of 13. A brand new boarding house will open in the school grounds in September 2011. At present the residence is home to pupils from the UK, Russia, Japan as well as students from expatriate families living in Spain. Boarders enjoy access to many of the sports facilities at the weekends and after school.
There is a wide variety of optional activities including: music, ballet, handicrafts, performing arts, judo, riding, swimming and tennis.
Admission: The procedure for admission varies according to the age of the pupil. Importance is given to previous school records and from age 7 to 16 years candidates are required to sit entrance tests in mathematics and English.
